Yesterday your child brough home his/her Home Reading Log. It is on the back side of the Weekly Homework Sheet. Next week it will be copied separate from the homework sheet so that it can be used all month. It should be kept in your child's HOMEWORK FOLDER until the end of the month. I will check progress weekly and students will be part of a lunch time book talk with the teacher if every slot is filled in at the end of each month.
There are many different ways to enjoy a book with your child. You can read to your child, have your child read to you, or have them read to a sibling. After reading the story, please have yoru child record the book title on the Reading Log and you can record the minutes and initial their Weekly Homework Sheet. It is important that reading be done every night, one night at a time for twenty minutes each day. Please do not wait until Thursday night to fill in the week's reading.
Reading with your child is essential for them to develop their reading skills as well as good reading habits. Research has shown that consistently practicing 20 minutes of reading a night can increase a child's reading ablity. Practice leads to progress! Happy reading!
