pyramids

In Math we're studying geometry including 3-D and 2-D shapes. Today we constructed pyramids out of straws! We discovered four kinds of pyramids: triangular pyramid, rectangular pyramid, pentagonal pyramid and hexagonal pyramid. We named the shape of the bases and charted the number of base sides, edges, faces and vertices. We also discovered some interesting patterns and were able to predict number of edges based on number of base sides in addition to number of vertices based on number of faces found.

Here's an idea for at home: use marshmellows and toothpicks to construct cubes, rectangular prisms and pyramids.
